Recently I just started playing the Nancy Drew Games and as a Hardy Boy’s Girl it’s been fun. The most recent one I finished was Deadly Device.

Setting –

I loved the setting and the location. I had no idea there was a real Tesla lab out in Colorado or that he did any of his research out there. I also liked how the mystery was contained in just the one building. It was less confusing and I could focus on the mystery versus on “am I in the right building?”. It just made it a lot easier.

Layout –

The layout of the building bothered me at first. In fact I commented numerous times how it drove me crazy that Ryan’s lab was on the second floor and not the first when it looked like a garage. Then I realized why it was like that. It makes sense that the lab lab was on the first floor. Safer that way and with the electricity that was needed, lets ground that sucker to make it safer.

It also bothered me how there were a lot of un-explained doors. Like we couldn’t click on them and get a “oh better not go there..” or “that’s so and so stay away.”. Especially the old looking door on the bottom floor. I had such a mighty need to know where this sucker went and it bothered me it was never explained.

Characters –

Each of the characters had their own quirks and I liked that.

Mason: I felt like was a bit over done. His personality drove me up the wall. I dreaded talking to him and in the scene where we had to save him I really didn’t want to. I knew he wasn’t the bad guy because he was too full of himself and too stupid.

Elle: I really liked her character. It’s rare to see a woman in these professions as it’s usually a mans world. So I got excited to see a smart charismatic woman sitting in the chair. Also the fact that was she a POC and didn’t follow any of the over used stereotypes. I do wish we could have dug more into her character a bit more.

Ryan: She is my spirt animal and I’m adopting her. She’s my daughter and I dare anyone to mess with her. At first she was a big pain in the ass but then I warmed up to her and her humor and wit just made me laugh each time I had to speak to her. I really loved how they played her out and her quirks. I’d love to see her in another game.

Victor: Creepy ass obvious villain guy. When I first started I thought it couldn’t be him. It just couldn’t be him even though he looked like a super villain. He was too perfect, sounded too calculated.

Deidra: Omfg don’t get me started on this brat. How do you get away with giving someone a bad professional review?! Like this isn’t even funny. While Nancy might strongly dislike her she’d at least try and giver her a professional review. I couldn’t believe she’d done that. And how much of a bitch she was. Like I’ve played MID and thought she was annoying but this was just crazy. I really hate her characters now.

Gray: I had a feeling he was something different than who he said he was. He was just too smart for his job but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I was surprised to see he was friends with Niko though.

Niko: In general this guy was a nutcase. His sweater bothered me with how tacky it was. I understood his character a bit when we got further in but it was still just weird.

Puzzles –

There were a lot of annoying puzzles in this one. I’ve been told it’s normal in the later games. We had to do a walk through with a lot of them because I lost the patience to solve them. I also don’t do timed scenes / games well so there is that.

Plot –

I liked all of the Tesla information and the fact that someone was sabotaging something or other and trying to sell stuff. I loved all of the detail and more.
